Studies have shown that fragrances, scents are the most powerful triggers for memories. Time and again, I have experienced this finding to be true. Even if the last encounter with a specific smell has been over 5 years, the moment it passes your nose a scene plays in your head from your past. Utterly amazing!

Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste did that for me. Had I ever had this perfume before? Nope. When I was in highschool, I had something else - a Bayo Fragrance. I think it was called Morning Mist, bought a few months before summer.

It wasn’t a fragrance that got people’s attention but it was so attractive to me that I just loved it off the bat. It’s a clean, and fresh scent with hints of these sparkling flowers that do not offend. And it reminds me of books. The florals are not heavy like rose but it also isn’t one of those that is popularly liked like freesia or jasmine. I couldn’t place it yet I loved it.

That summer, I brought it with me to Puerto Galera. It was one of the best summer vacations I ever had. Lounging under the sun by the house pool, stretching out into the deserted beach with friends sunbathing, walking through the uncrowded streets breathing in the ocean, the greens and the fresh air, eating homemade health food, buying Mozarella at the local deli. Everything I wanted in a vacation: peace, privacy and pleasure. All that time, I wore Bayo Morning Mist.

I finished that bottle. It wasn’t a perfume, more of a body spray. I didn’t get compliments from it, unlike the other I wore, Gucci Rush 2. However, it was clear to me that I loved it. It was an exceptional fragrance with one flaw: only if it had better sillage and were available in Eau de Parfum/Toilette formulation.

Today, as I am currently looking for a new fragrance to add to my collection, something non-gourmand but still uniquely me, my friends at the Fragrance Specialist sent a list of fragrances I could look into. (It was a list the owner came up with me that she tailored for me.) I ordered samples of it and received it a few days ago.

I enlisted the help of my ever patient boyfriend to choose. I had briefly sniffed every vial but I haven’t sat down, tested and evaluated each suggestion. I let my boyfriend do the smelling first and I followed. We agreed to reveal our picks after we’ve gone through all.

I was surprised by the scent of Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste. Not joking, I was literally taken back to my highschool days, of the week in Puerto Galera, of that moment I knew I wanted this fragrance despite its subtlety. It was without a doubt, just like Bayo Morning Mist. Out of the 20 samples I ordered, it is in my top 3. The rest of the list I shall reveal in another post. :) But I think the best surprise is that it was also on my boyfriend’s best list. NOTES of Fragrance Specialist version of Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste

Now a little more about Blvgari Omnia Amethyste. Thanks to Fragrantica, I now know what those floral notes are.

Iris, Heliotrope and very subtle Rose (probably White Rose).

It is roughened out or neutralized by a Woody scent. Something like….Paper, the good parts of the smell of well-read book. 

But I think one thing a lot of people miss out on is that it also has that aquatic smell, which comes from the Heliotrope but also from something like: rain water.

On me, the woody-papery scent hits me hard first spray.

It dies down a little, and the florals come out. I have not smelled Heliotrope ever, but I know Iris and I think Iris plays second fiddle to Heliotrope. At this stage, it reminded me so much of Clinique Happy. I like Happy too, but so many people wear it that it’s just too familiar already. I got wary actually because why spend so much on Bvlgari when I could get Clinique instead? Why get it at all? I don’t like Clinique Happy THAT much.

So a little more patience. That part of the stage didn’t quite last so long. Perhaps my skin had some sort telepathic connection to my mind that suddenly my chemistry had changed the crispy and perky smell of Happy. The fragrance became a little more balmy. Beautiful honestly because it made the scent even more sophisticated than the casual Clinique Happy.

And the finale: a very subtle fragrance, almost like a body mist that stay just a little while on your skin. Because the notes are light and rather airy, it makes sense that its sillage is the same. If Fragrance Specialist got this just as much as they got Thierry Mugler Angel, then Bvlgari Omnia Amethyste is a sophisticated, elegant casual scent. 

I’m not the cutesy kind of girl, so Clinique & D&G Light Blue never cut it for me (too next door girl-ish). Omnia Amethyste sends out vibes of spritely, sparkly, pretty, light, fairyish, and youthful (not young, youthful). AndI can’t wait to try and buy the original perfume! Magnifique.
